- Gordon Cole and Phillip Jeffries investigate a case in Olympia, Washington involving Lois Duffy. After breaking down a motel room door, they witness Duffy murdering another Lois Duffy. The duplicate says the words "I'm like the blue rose" before expiring, then vanishes. The real Lois Duffy hangs herself while awaiting trial. The case inspires the name for the Blue Rose task force.[1]
