- For her doppelganger, see Caroline Earle (doppelganger).
Caroline Earle (née Powell)[note 2] was the wife of Windom Earle. She was also having a serious relationship with Dale Cooper, and later, was murdered by Windom.
Biography[]
In 1973, Caroline was a law student, working under Samuel Dash, the chief prosecutor of the Watergate hearing. During that time, she met and began dating FBI Agent Windom Earle. They married on August 10, 1974. Over the next ten years, the couple resided in Caroline's hometown of Pittsburgh, where she was a partner in a successful corporate law practice.[3]
In a 2017 report, FBI Agent Tammy Preston noted that Diane Evans' tulpa doctored Dale Cooper's tape transcripts concerning his relationship with Caroline.[3]
When Caroline first met her husband's partner Dale Cooper, she told him that she hoped that taking a life would not affect his life the way it did her husband's.[1]
As her husband began taking numerous supposed trips out of town[3] and apparently disappeared, Caroline began to form a close bond with Dale.[1] Following Windom's return in 1985,[4] according to Cooper's tape transcripts, she was allegedly kidnapped by three men and was forced into prostitution and heroin addiction. Following this, she was moved to a safehouse, where her husband decided not to stay.[1]
Cooper and Caroline mutually reached the conclusion that Windom was behind a series of serial killings and consummated an affair.[3] However, within days, the lovers were stabbed by Windom, and Caroline died, as her aorta[5] had been severed.[1]
A doppelganger of Caroline later appeared to Dale in the Black Lodge, taking Annie Blackburn's place, who said that her husband killed her. Annie then took her place.[6]

Notes[]
- ↑ The Autobiography of F.B.I. Special Agent Dale Cooper: My Life, My Tapes states Caroline's death to have occurred in 1979. However, in "Episode 17," (set in 1989), Cooper states her death to have occurred "four years ago." Twin Peaks: The Final Dossier's narrative is more consistent with "Episode 17," and implies that the transcripts of Cooper's tapes about the ordeal were redacted and modified by Diane's tulpa. Nevertheless, the inconsistency does appear once, saying that Earle had been imprisoned for nearly ten years.
- ↑ The Final Dossier gives Caroline's maiden name as "Wickam" despite "Episode 22" stating it to be "Powell," and that Earle killed Erik Powell specifically because his surname was once Caroline's.
