- The Great Blizzard of 1889 strikes in Twin Peaks, Washington. At least seventy-nine residents, many gathered for the Annual Candlelighting and Christmas Tree Ceremony on Meadowlark Hill, are killed.
- Two Spanish trappers, Edwardo Delegato and José "Shorteyes" Manuela, discover Owl Cave and huddle inside during the blizzard.
- 1977 – Dale Cooper begins his career at the FBI's Pittsburgh field office. Diane Evans is assigned as his secretary.
