Matt Battaglia is an American actor who portrayed a cop in Episode 22 of Twin Peaks (1990-1991) and a cowboy in Twin Peaks (2017).

Biography and career[]

Battaglia was born in Tallahassee, Florida, but grew up in the towns of Tucker, Georgia and Lithonia, Georgia, two suburbs east of Atlanta. During school, he was part of both the wrestling and football teams. He subsequently earned a football scholarship to play for the University of Louisville where he excelled as a linebacker.

After high school, Battaglia went on to play for the Cleveland Browns and the Philadelphia Eagles in the National Football League. Unfortunately, after just two years, a broken bone was discovered in his neck ending his career. Battaglia decided to return to college where he earned a degree in business and an emphasis in finance.

Battaglia has worked steadily in television since 1990, appearing in Baywatch (1997), CSI: Miami (2006), Queer as Folk (2004-2005), 24 (2005-2006, with James Morrison and Kiefer Sutherland), Big Love (2007, with Amanda Seyfried, Harry Dean Stanton, and Grace Zabriskie), NCIS: Los Angeles (2009, with Rodney Rowland), The Mentalist (2012, with Ronnie Gene Blevins), and True Detective (2015, with Blevins), among others.

In film, he appeared in Army of One (1993), Blue Sky (1994), Showgirls (1995, with Kyle MacLachlan), and Thor (2011, with Rob Mars). Battaglia is also known for replacing Jean-Claude Van Damme in the role of Luc Devereaux for two unofficial sequels of Universal Soldier.

Battaglia produced the Jim Sheridan film Brothers (2009, starring Ethan Suplee) and the series Last Shot with Judge Gunn (2011-2012), for which he received two Creative Arts Emmy Awards.
