Micro-Mac was a brand of pocket tape recorder.

History[]

On February 24, 1989, FBI Special Agent Dale Cooper purchased a Micro-Mac tape recorder for $21.89 at Wally’s Rent-to-Own in Seattle, Washington.[1]

Cooper used the Micro-Mac to record messages for his secretary, Diane Evans, throughout his investigations in Twin Peaks.[2]

The recorder had a voice-activated recording function, which was utilized to record phrases spoken by the myna bird Waldo.[3]

Behind the scenes[]

In reality, three different models of tape recorders were used as the Micro-Mac. The first was a Panasonic RN-105, which served as the primary recorder Cooper uses throughout the series and film. Because this model did not have a voice-activated recording feature, Realistic Micro-26 and Realistic Micro-27 recorders were used for close-ups in the first and second seasons, respectively.[4]
