Sergei Eisenstein (January 22, 1898 – February 11, 1948) was a Soviet film director, best known for pioneering the use of montages. He is best known for his films Strike (1925), Battleship Potemkin (1925), October (1928), Alexander Nevsky (1938), and Ivan the Terrible (1944, 1958).
